Mit diesem Retro-jet erinnert Air Canada an ihre Vorgänger-Gesellschaft Trans Canada Air Lines, die 1937 ins Leben gerufen wurde. 1965 wurde der heutige Name Air Canada offiziell eingeführt, der seinerzeit bereits im frankophonen Teil des Landes verwendet wurde. Die nagelneue A220 folgt auf eine A319, die 20 Jahre lang eine ähnliche Retrolackierung der TCA besaß. Mit der neuen A220 stellt Air Canada also sicher, dass die Bemalung der Trans Canada Bemalung fortbesteht.
