EC-AIO “Niña”

Ab Sommer 1954 nahm Iberia US-amerikanische Ziele in ihr Streckennetz auf. Hierfür wurden drei Super Constellations in Dienst gestellt, die nach den drei Schiffen benannt sind, mit denen Columbus zu seiner Reise gen Westen aufbrach – die Santa Maria, die Pinta und eben die als EC-AIO registrierte "Niña". Der erste Flug von Madrid nach New York fand am 3. August 1945 statt, dem Jahrestag, an dem Columbus seinerzeit mit den drei Schiffen vom spanischen Hafen von Palos de la Frontera aus in die Neue Welt aufbrach.
