Diese B-52G war Teil des 42. Bombergeschwaders auf der Loring Air Force Base im US-Bundesstaat Maine, doch mit dem sich zuspitzenden Konflikt um Kuwait 1990 wurden Teile der Einheit dem 4300th Provisional Bomb Wing überstellt. Diese Einheit operierte von der im Indischen Ozean gelegenen Insel Diego Garcia aus und beteiligte sich ab Januar 1991 aktiv bei der Bekämpfung irakischer Ziele. Innerhalb der Operation „Desert Storm“ flogen die B-52 zahlreiche Einsätze bei Tag und Nacht und warfen mehr als 25.000 Tonnen Bomben ab.
