Informationen zum Vorbild:
Bei der Aufstellung des Standard-Typenprogramms der Deutschen Bundesbahn war bereits über eine Streckendiesellok mit einer Leistung von 1500-1600 PS nachgedacht worden. Die Maschinen- und Antriebsanlage der daraus entstandenen V160 ist eng an die Lokomotiven der V100 angelehnt. In nahezu allen Bundesbahndirektionen waren die Lokomotiven der Baureihe 216 im Einsatz. Sie wurden im Reise- und Güterzugdienst eingesetzt, wo sie sich gut bewährten. Die 216 118-0 war Anfang der 70er Jahre in der BD Münster im Bahnbetriebswerk Oldenburg beheimatet und wurde von dort aus vorwiegend im Reisezugdienst eingesetzt.
