Ursprünglich für die US-Luftstreitkräfte 1944 gebaut, erreichte das Flugzeug 1949, als es an Qantas Empire Airways verkauft wurde, erstmals australischen Boden. 1961 wurde es auf die Kennung VH-EDB umregistriert und erhielt den Taufnamen „Norfolk Trader“. Diese DC-4 wurde hauptsächlich auf Strecken vom australischen Festland nach Norfolk Island eingesetzt, einer kleinen Inselgruppe rund 1.400 km östlich der australischen Küste, bis sie schließlich 1977 verkauft wurde.
