Der OH-13 von American Bell ist einer der berühmtesten Hubschrauber der Geschichte. Es wurde unmittelbar nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg entwickelt und Ende der 40er Jahre an die U.S. Army geliefert. Charakteristisch für die "Sioux" waren die "Seifenblasenhaube", die sie einzigartig und leicht erkennbar machte, der Heckpylon und die beiden Seitentanks. Der OH-13 wurde während des Koreakrieges in großer Zahl eingesetzt, um eine Vielzahl von Aufgaben wie Beobachtung, Vorwärtsaufklärung und medizinische Evakuierung zu erfüllen. Der OH-13 hatte eine dreisitzige Kabinenkonfiguration, konnte 170 km/h erreichen und zeichnete sich durch eine gute Robustheit und Zuverlässigkeit aus, was seine betriebliche Langlebigkeit positiv bedingte.
