1968 wurde TAT als Touraine Air Transport mit Sitz in Tours, Frankreich, gegründet. Nach mehreren Fusionen mit anderen Regionalgesellschaften wuchs sie in den 1980er Jahren zur größten Regionalairline des Landes heran. Die FH-227 war eine in den USA von Fairchild in Lizenz produzierte Version der Fokker 27.
