Die B-58 Hustler war der erste Überschallbomber weltweit. Im März 1960 begann die Indienststellung des leistungsstarken Bombers beim Strategic Air Command der US Air Force. Die ersten Maschinen wurden dabei vom 43. Bombergeschwader auf der Carswell Luftwaffenbasis in Texas übernommen. Bereits zehn Jahre später, also vor genau 50 Jahren, wurden alle Exemplare des attraktiven Delta-Flüglers außer Dienst gestellt.
