Am 24. November 1955 startete PH-NIV zu ihrem Erstflug. Als Nachfolger für die bewährte, aber betagte Douglas DC-3 konzipiert, wurde die Fokker 27 schnell zum Erfolg für den niederländischen Hersteller. An die 600 Exemplare des „Friendship“ wurden insgesamt hergestellt, die praktisch in allen Ecken der Welt zivil und militärisch zum Einsatz kamen.
