Im März 1944 vergab Wa Pruef 6 Aufträge zur Herstellung von drei Versuchs-Pz.Kpfw. IV auf Einheitsfahrgestell. Im Juni 1944 wurde beschlossen, die Serienproduktion des Pz.Kpfw.III/IV im Krupp-Grusonwerk im Februar 1945 aufzunehmen. Am 12. Juli 1944 wurde Krupp informiert, dass der Pz.Kpfw.III/IV eingestellt und nur noch der Pznaerjaeger mit L/70 produziert wird.
